标题: Do I have to send an SMS to register a Google account now?

I’ve been trying to create a new Google account and keep hitting the same problem. No matter what I try, Google always requires me to send an SMS for verification — not receive an OTP like usual. 📱➡️📤

I tested multiple devices: a Mac, iPhone, and Pixel phone.
I also tried different browsers — Chrome, Atlas, and Safari — all in incognito mode. 🖥️📱🕵️‍♂️

I used my own phone number, but Google says it has been used too many times. Then I tried a Giffgaff number and even Google Voice. The SMS shows as “sent,” but the verification page stays stuck on “pending.” ⏳

I’m not sure if this is an environment issue on my side or if Google now enforces this process for everyone.
Has anyone else run into this? Any insight would be appreciated! 🙏

I finally made it work! 🎉

So here’s what I did:

I used Reateago cellular data (it comes with an Austrian number 🇦🇹 but gives me an England IP 🇬🇧). With that setup, I tried creating a Google account again, and this time it asked me to send an SMS to a +44 number.

I used giffgaff to send the SMS… and BOOM 💥 — account created successfully!

Super relieved after trying so many devices and browsers. 😅

Hope this helps anyone stuck with the same issue! 🙌

Google tends to ask you to scan a qr and send a sms instead of receiving like before. If you go with a real host ip address (or any dual isp perhaps?) to register will works probly.

Your English has so many Chatgpt-vibe emojis mixed in that when your name and pfp are covered, I legit thought you were an auto-posted bot lol

Yeah, I’ve noticed I often make grammar mistakes and my expressions don’t sound very natural, so I usually ask AI to refine my messages. It helps me learn. If I just type and reply on my own, I’ll keep repeating the same mistakes, and my writing will stay non-native for a long time.

Sometimes I don’t know which English word to use, so I just drop in a Chinese word and let the AI teach me. It slows down my replies, tbh, but I really want to learn.

As for the emojis — I add them on purpose because I think they make the text more readable.
